Steak ’n Shake Launches First-Ever Strategic Bitcoin Reserve
Steak ’n Shake is breaking new ground by becoming the first significant fast-food chain to create a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR).
In a bold move toward embracing Bitcoin, all payments made in Bitcoin will now contribute to their newly established Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. This initiative not only symbolizes the chain's commitment to bitcoin adoption but also enhances its engagement with the cryptocurrency community.
As part of this innovative program, Steak ’n Shake will donate 210 satoshis from every Bitcoin Meal sold to the Open Sats Initiative, Inc. over the course of the next year. This donation highlights the company's dedication to supporting open-source bitcoin development.
Customers who purchase and register their Bitcoin Steakburger through the Fold App will be rewarded with $5 in complimentary Bitcoin. Instructions for claiming this bonus will be printed on their receipts, adding an exciting twist to the dining experience.
This announcement comes on the heels of a particularly successful quarter for Steak ’n Shake, which recorded a remarkable 15% increase in same-store sales, outpacing its competitors. This growth underscores the positive influence that engaging with cryptocurrency can have on the restaurant’s financial performance.

In collaboration with Fold Holdings, Steak ’n Shake has introduced a limited-time promotion across more than 1,200 locations. Customers can earn $5 in bitcoin with the purchase of a Bitcoin Meal or a Bitcoin Steakburger.
To redeem this offer, diners only need to upload their receipt to bitcoinmealdeal.com, obtain a code through the Fold app, and receive their reward instantly. This initiative represents the first time a U.S. restaurant menu item has been linked to bitcoin rewards, complete with a Bitcoin logo stamped on the burger bun, signaling a significant step towards mainstream adoption.
This campaign aligns with the 17th anniversary of the Bitcoin white paper, further building on Steak ’n Shake’s prior adoption of Lightning Network payments, which aim to enhance transaction speeds and efficiency.
Fold, which currently holds approximately 1,500 BTC, continues to expand its bitcoin rewards ecosystem, actively enhancing the experience for users engaging with cryptocurrency.
During the Bitcoin 2025 Conference, Steak ’n Shake executive Dan Edwards emphasized the company's ongoing efforts to globally adopt Bitcoin payments through the Lightning Network, showcasing their commitment to innovation in the fast-food industry.
