bitcoin A teenager has been convicted of murder following the fatal stabbing of 16-year-old Harry Pitman in a central London park during New Year’s Eve festivities two years ago. Areece Lloyd-Hall, now aged 18, fatally wounded Pitman in the neck amidst a chaotic altercation that erupted between the two unfamiliar youths during a midnight gathering at Primrose Hill, a popular spot for viewing the city’s fireworks.
In a retrial, a jury reached an 11-1 majority verdict, finding Lloyd-Hall guilty of murder. He is scheduled to face sentencing on 10 November. The initial trial was abandoned when jurors could not reach a consensus regarding the murder charge. After deliberating for eight hours, the jury returned a guilty verdict this past Wednesday.
Lloyd-Hall had pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder, asserting that he had no intention of taking Pitman’s life. Prosecutor Jocelyn Ledward KC recounted to the Old Bailey how “revelry turned to tragedy in the blink of an eye” on 31 December 2023.

However, just 20 minutes before midnight, a confrontation ensued after Pitman accidentally bumped into one of Lloyd-Hall’s friends. What began as play-fighting escalated when Pitman lost his balance and inadvertently collided with another boy. This incident triggered shoving and a direct confrontation, leading Lloyd-Hall to intervene and threaten Pitman.
Mobile phone footage presented during the trial depicted Lloyd-Hall drawing a knife from his waistband and striking Pitman in the neck while Pitman attempted to throw a punch. Additionally, police bodycam footage captured the moments following the stabbing, showing Pitman staggering through the crowd with blood on his neck, desperately seeking assistance from nearby officers. Tragically, he collapsed shortly thereafter and, despite the immediate first aid administered by the police, succumbed to his injuries just moments before the clock struck midnight.
